3D TV is on its Way!

Panasonic used this year's IFA to showcase its latest developments in 3D technology and made a bold claim that it would be "the first company to come to market with both a 3D TV and compatible Blu-ray player."

The revelation was made by Yosikuku Miyata, Panasonic Vice President, who also explained how Panny's 3D is the best around

Panasonic-fullhd3d-420-90  With a sly dig of Sony's 3D LCD Bravia technology he mentioned that: "PDP is the best way to show 3D in the Full HD format. With LCD, images blur; with PDP images are crisp."

Miyata also explained how Panasonic's 3D roots were already in Hollywood, saying that it was the "only manufacturer who has an R&D factory in Hollywood" and that Panasonic was "collaborating closely with Hollywood and leading the way in consumer 3D standards".

Cue a little bit of Hollywood in Berlin, as Avatar producer Jon Landau took the stage to show his support for Panasonic's 3D technology.

Panasonic-avatarproducer-420-90  "Jim wrote Avatar before Titanic, but the time wasn't right for the technology," explained Landau. "What we tried to do was use CGI technology to create characters that were emotive and engaging.

"Panasonic turned out to be the right choice, it just seemed to make sense when we talked about future cinema innovations."

He finally remarked that: "Avatar will evolutionise, not revolutionise. 3D is not just about action movies. It is more engaging than that.

Recap of the 2009 International CES Show

The "2009 International CES," which began on January 8, has just ended. The 4 days went by in a flash. I was a bit worried that it may not be as busy due to the worldwide recession, but there was a great turn out. A job well done to all the staff in the Panasonic booth!

People have started packing up the booth, so I have to get ready to leave my secret back room too. I hope you enjoyed the first exhibition for the CyberShowcase blog this year, and that you got a feel for Panasonic's commitment for 2009.

Click on the image to watch the video.

We added a few short videos to some of the entries this time, but what did you think? We gave it a go hoping to give you a better idea about the atmosphere at the exhibition. If we receive great feedback, we'd like to continue adding some short clips to the entries.

Much thanks for reading my entries and I look forward to meeting you again from some other exhibition. Video reports from CES will be uploaded soon, so please stay tuned!

    'eco ideas' for Everybody, Everywhere

I have talked about the "Panasonic Eco Relay," which are environmental activities Panasonic endeavors to make widespread around the world, in my entries for other exhibitions. "Panasonic Eco Relay" as well as many other eco activities are being introduced at the Eco-Products 2009 as well. What you see on the panels are representative case examples of such eco activities from factories in Japan, Brazil, Thailand,Tanzania and United States.

Eco09_231 The diaries of the winners of the eco illustration diary contest are also on display. Children around the world submitted an illustration of the eco activities they undertake at school or at home. A girl from Japan submitted an illustration about how she made soap from waste oil, and a girl from the United Kingdom drew a picture of recycling activities. The children's pictures and diary entries are very fun and intriguing. Unfortunately I couldn't read Thai or Vietnamese.

On the monitor set up in one corner, you can watch video clips of eco activities Panasonic undertakes all around the world. This monitor is a touch panel, so you can spin the image of a globe you see in the screen center and select any one of the 23 eco activities you would like to learn more about. Looking at these video clips, I realized anew that Panasonic has offices/factories all around the world, and people who work in them are committed to eco activities with the same desire in mind. The video clips are also available in English and Chinese.
